What is Wilhelmsen?
Wilhelmsen is a global maritime group of companies headquartered in Lysaker, Norway, with roots going back to 1861, built on generations of ship owning heritage. We are an industrial holding company within maritime, with the vision of shaping our industry. Through our operating companies and strategic investments, we provide essential products, services, infrastructure and logistics to the maritime and energy industries. The group is organised into three business segments: Maritime Services, New Energy, and Strategic Holdings and Investments. We operate in 53 countries, serve more than 2,200 ports, and run one of the world’s largest maritime networks.
What does Wilhelmsen do?
Wilhelmsen owns and runs essential infrastructure and logistics for the maritime and energy industries. We also provide a comprehensive range of products and services to the maritime and offshore industries. This includes supplying vessel necessities like cleaning chemicals, ropes, and welding equipment. We also offer digital services designed to enhance safety, reduce fuel consumption, and lower emissions. Additionally, we assist vessels with organising port calls and accessing various port services.
What does wilhelmsen.com refer to, and how is it different from walleniuswilhelmsen.com?
wilhelmsen.com is the website of the Wilhelmsen group, headed by Wilh. Wilhelmsen Holding ASA, a Norwegian maritime group founded in 1861 and headquartered in Lysaker. walleniuswilhelmsen.com belongs to Wallenius Wilhelmsen ASA, a separate listed company specialising in ocean transport and logistics for cars and rolling cargo. The two companies share historical ties and we are a cornerstone shareholder in Wallenius Wilhelmsen with a 38% stake, but they are run as independent businesses with separate boards, management teams and strategies.
Is Wilhelmsen the same as Wilh. Wilhelmsen Holding ASA?
Yes. “Wilhelmsen” is the name we use across the group, while Wilh. Wilhelmsen Holding ASA is the legal name of the parent company, a Norwegian company listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange under the tickers WWI (A shares) and WWIB (B shares). All operating companies in the group, including Wilhelmsen Ship Management, Wilhelmsen Ships Service and Wilhelmsen Port Services among others, sit under Wilh. Wilhelmsen Holding ASA.
What is the relationship between Wilhelmsen and Wallenius Wilhelmsen?
While we share historical ties, partial ownership and work closely together in various ways, Wilhelmsen group and Wallenius Wilhelmsen are two separate companies. In 2017, Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics underwent a significant transformation. The company shortened its name to Wallenius Wilhelmsen after a merger between Wilhelmsen entity Wilh. Wilhelmsen ASA from Norway and Soya Group entity Wallenius Lines from Sweden. Both Wilhelmsen and our Swedish partner are cornerstone shareholders with a 38% stake each, and the remaining shares are traded publicly.
Does Wilhelmsen still own a stake in Wallenius Wilhelmsen?
Yes. We hold 37.9% of Wallenius Wilhelmsen ASA, alongside our Swedish partner the Soya Group, which holds an identical stake. The remaining shares are publicly traded on the Oslo Stock Exchange.
Where is Wilhelmsen headquartered?
Our group headquarters are in Lysaker, just outside Oslo, Norway, at Strandveien 20. From here we run the parent company, Wilh. Wilhelmsen Holding ASA, while our operating companies are based in maritime hubs around the world, including Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Houston, Hamburg and Mumbai among others.
Is Wilhelmsen a Norwegian company?
Yes. Wilhelmsen was founded in Tønsberg, Norway, in 1861 and remains Norwegian today. The parent company, Wilh. Wilhelmsen Holding ASA, is a Norwegian company listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange and headquartered in Lysaker. The Wilhelmsen family retain controlling ownership of the group and is currently run by fifth generation.

What is the history of Wilhelmsen?
Founded in 1861, Wilhelmsen has been a key player in the maritime industry for over 160 years. We started with sailing vessels, transitioned through steam and diesel power, and overcame the challenges of two world wars. After World War II, we expanded our fleet and became one of the leading shipping companies globally. In the 1970s, we specialised in car and rolling cargo transport, which led to the creation of Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics in 1999. In 2005, we established Wilhelmsen Maritime Services to broaden our footprint in the maritime sector. In 2021 we established the New Energy segment, focusing on growth businesses driving industrial positions within the energy value chain and the energy transition.
When was Wilhelmsen founded and by whom?
Wilhelmsen was founded in 1861 by Morten Wilhelm Wilhelmsen in the Norwegian town of Tønsberg. Starting with sailing vessels, the company grew steadily, and by 1886 was the largest shipowner in Tønsberg.
How long has Wilhelmsen been family-owned, and which generation runs it today?
Wilhelmsen has been continuously family-owned since its founding in 1861. We are now in our fifth generation of family ownership, with Group CEO Thomas Wilhelmsen representing the current generation in the leadership of the group. This continuity of family stewardship across more than 160 years shapes how we work, with a long-term perspective, a commitment to our heritage, and with a clear vision for the future of the maritime industry.
Who currently owns Wilhelmsen?
Wilh. Wilhelmsen Holding ASA is listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange, with the Wilhelmsen family as the controlling owner through their family holding company. The remaining shares are held by institutional and retail investors. The company has two share classes: A shares (ticker WWI) carrying voting rights, and B shares (ticker WWIB) which are non-voting. Both are listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange.
Is Wilhelmsen still involved in deep-sea shipping, and what else does the company focus on today?
Over the past two decades, we have progressively transitioned from being a shipowner and operator, to becoming an industrial holding company within the maritime industry. The deep-sea shipping operations historically associated with the Wilhelmsen name are now run by Wallenius Wilhelmsen ASA, in which we hold a cornerstone stake. Today, the Wilhelmsen group focuses on maritime services for the global merchant fleet, infrastructure across the energy value chain, and strategic shareholdings in leading maritime, infrastructure and logistics companies.

What does Wilhelmsen Ship Management do, and how many vessels does it manage?
Wilhelmsen Ship Management provides full technical management, crewing, and lifecycle services for all vessel segments. Our services include technical management, crew management, lifecycle services such as newbuilding supervision, retrofits, conversions, riding gangs, drydocking, layup management, and responsible recycling. In addition, we supply full onboard vessel IT infrastructure as well as emissions and efficiency management. We also offer travel services via our own travel agency, plus procurement services. Together with our partners we manage approximately 400 vessels across major maritime hubs as well as offer 15 000 seafarers from our crewing pool, and operate from offices in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Mumbai, Houston, Hamburg, Busan, and other key locations across all continents.
What is Wilhelmsen Ships Service, and what products does it supply to vessels?
Wilhelmsen Ships Service offers a portfolio of maritime products and solutions for the global merchant fleet under trusted brand names, including Unitor™, Nalfleet™, Timm™, and Navadan™.We supply vessels with marine chemicals, gases and refrigerants, cleaning equipment, welding equipment, ropes, speciality lubricants, and marine emission control solutions. Through our global supply network, customers can access a consistent supply of essential consumables wherever their vessels operate.
What is Wilhelmsen Port Services, and what does it offer to vessels calling at ports?
Wilhelmsen Port Services provides full agency, husbandry and protective agency services to the merchant fleet. When a vessel calls at port, we coordinate the practical arrangements that allow the call to run smoothly — from documentation and customs to crew changes, supplies and supplier coordination. With a presence in more than 2,200 ports worldwide, we run one of the largest port agency networks in the maritime industry.
How extensive is Wilhelmsen’s global network?
Wilhelmsen operates in 53 countries and serves over 2,200 ports worldwide. Our global network includes around 15,000 crew members operating various types of vessels and approximately 5,000 employees working in offices, warehouses, and supply bases. This extensive presence makes us one of the largest maritime networks in the world.
What is NorSea, and what role does it play in the Wilhelmsen Group?
NorSea is a leading provider of supply bases and integrated logistics solutions to the energy and industry, mainly in Norway, Denmark and the United Kingdom. We own 99.4% of NorSea, which sits at the heart of our New Energy segment. As Europe’s energy industry transitions from oil and gas towards on- and offshore wind and other renewables, NorSea continues to provide critical infrastructure, logistics, real estate and base operations supporting both established and emerging energy value chains.
What is the New Energy segment at Wilhelmsen?
Launched in 2021, the New Energy segment focuses on contributing to energy security and transition within the maritime and offshore industries. Including NorSea Group, Reach Subsea, Massterly and RaaLabs, this segment consists of companies that provide infrastructure, logistics, vessels and digital and engineering services across the energy value chain. The companies are both fully owned and partly owned, and the segment has an ambition to further expand with new platform investments over the coming years.
What is Edda Wind, and how is Wilhelmsen involved in offshore wind?Wilhelmsen is no longer involved in or holds any stake in Edda Wind, following a transaction that closed in April 2026.
What is Reach Subsea, and what is Wilhelmsen’s role in it?
Reach Subsea ASA is a Norwegian subsea services company specialising in inspection, maintenance, repair and survey (IMR) services for offshore energy and infrastructure customers globally. The company combines subsea expertise with proprietary technology, marine operations and subsea robotics to deliver data-driven, remote and autonomous solutions.
We hold a 29.6% stake in Reach Subsea, having increased our shareholding in 2025 by exercising warrants. The investment sits in our New Energy segment and supports our broader exposure to subsea services, technology-enabled operations and robotics-based solutions across both traditional offshore energy and emerging markets such as offshore wind and subsea cabling.
What is Raa Labs, and what does it do within the Wilhelmsen Group?
Raa Labs is our maritime technology company that provides vessel data infrastructure for ship operators and fleet managers. Founded in 2018 and headquartered in Lysaker, Norway, the company operates as an independent data layer beneath fleet applications, capturing, standardising, and delivering reliable vessel operational data at fleet scale. Raa Labs is owned 74.25% by the Wilhelmsen Group and serves leading maritime operators globally.
What is Massterly, and is Wilhelmsen working on autonomous ships?
Massterly is a 50/50 joint venture between Wilhelmsen and Kongsberg Maritime, established to develop operational services for autonomous ships. Through the use of new technology, Massterly provides management and operation of autonomous and remote-controlled vessels, as well as support for design and construction of new vessels within these segments.Massterly sits in our New Energy segment alongside our other technology and decarbonisation investments.
What is Waterway IT, and what does the joint venture with MPC Capital do?Waterway IT is a joint venture between Wilhelmsen Ship Management and MPC Capital, providing onboard IT infrastructure to the global shipping industry. The company offers a standardised, fully managed IT environment for vessels delivering connectivity, cybersecurity, regulatory compliance and the integration of digital applications. Waterway IT serves a fleet of approximately 400 vessels across all vessel segments, operating from hubs in Hamburg, Oslo, Kuala Lumpur, and Manila.
What is Wilhelmsen’s stake in Hyundai Glovis, and why does the group hold it?We hold an 11.0% stake in Hyundai Glovis Co., Ltd., the Korean logistics company. The shareholding sits within our Strategic Holdings and Investments segment alongside our stake in Wallenius Wilhelmsen ASA. Hyundai Glovis is a long-term industrial holding that gives the group exposure to the global automotive logistics market and aligns with our strategy of building strategic positions in leading maritime and logistics companies. In 2025, we acquired the remaining outstanding shares in Treasure ASA, the holding company that previously held our Hyundai Glovis stake, and delisted Treasure from Euronext Oslo Børs.

In 2025, Wilhelmsen reported total income of USD 1,231 million, up 8% from USD 1,138 million in 2024. Net profit for the year was USD 671 million, supported by strong contributions from joint ventures and associates including Wallenius Wilhelmsen and Hyundai Glovis.
