Wilhelmsen Port Services is committed to ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of all individuals involved in our operations, including employees, temporary staff, contractors, suppliers and partners. Our guiding principle is to deliver services to our customers without causing accidents or harm to individuals. This policy applies to all employees, temporary staff, contractors, suppliers and partners.

In Wilhelmsen Port Services, we are all committed to:

  • providing a safe and healthy working environment for the prevention of work-related injury and ill health by eliminating hazards and reducing health and safety risks
  • promoting a healthy and safety culture which all employees share this commitment, and
  • establishing a professional relationship with our suppliers that meet our healthy and safety standards

Responsibilities 

To achieve this, we will:

  • develop, implement and maintain robust health and safety management system that comply with all applicable legal and regulatory requirements
  • define and communicate clear roles and responsibilities for health and safety at all organizational levels
  • conduct risk assessments to identify, assess, and control potential health and safety hazards
  • provide adequate training, resources and equipment to maintain safe working conditions and practices
  • establish monitoring, reporting and audit process to ensure compliance and facilitate continuous improvement in health and safety performance

Safety Culture

Wilhelmsen Port Services is committed to establishing a strong safety culture that prioritizes the health, safety, and well-being of all individuals involved in its operations. This commitment is supported through the implementation of comprehensive safety programs, including TAKE 5 and Stop Work Authority, aimed at proactively identifying and mitigating risks.

Management is responsible for demonstrating visible safety leadership by allocating 
adequate resources, setting clear safety expectations, and actively promoting a safety-first  mindset across all levels of the organization. Managers shall lead by example, engage directly in safety initiatives, and ensure that safety policies and procedures are consistently followed.

Employees are expected to actively participate in all safety training and awareness 
programs, including TAKE 5 and Stop Work Authority, and to consistently adhere to 
established safety protocols, procedures, and regulatory requirements. They must exercise Stop Work Authority when unsafe conditions or practices are observed, without fear of retaliation, and promptly report any hazards, incidents, or near-misses to management. Employees should contribute to maintaining a safe work environment by following safe work practices, supporting safety initiatives, and encouraging peers to uphold safety standards. Additionally, they are required to take personal accountability for their own safety and the safety of those around them, demonstrating a proactive approach to risk management and safety compliance.

Incident investigation and reporting

All accidents, incidents, and near-misses must be promptly reported and thoroughly 
investigated to identify root causes and implement effective corrective and preventive actions. The investigation process shall be proportionate to the severity, complexity, and potential impact of the incident, ensuring a systematic and objective approach to safeguarding the health and safety of individuals.

Incidents resulting in fatalities, serious injuries, or significant risks to people's safety shall be investigated at the highest organizational level, with senior management oversight. Lessons learned from all investigations shall be documented, communicated, and integrated into safety management systems to enhance organizational learning and prevent recurrence.


The policy is endorsed and approved by the Wilhelmsen Port Services management team and is applicable from March 17, 2025.
