MV Tagus 

The PCTC (Pure Car and Truck Carrier) MV Tagus is the the second vessel in a series of two built by Daewoo Okpo Shipyard in Korea, and she was delivered in February 1985. The vessel is specially suited for cars and trucks but she has also flexibility to carry project cargo and containers. MV Tagus has a total capacity of 5550 cars (RT43) or 651
trucks. Maximum container capacity is 921 containers TEU.

MV Tagus has a basic complement of 15 and is a sistership to MV Tasco.The ship is built to the class of DNV (Det Norske Veritas) with the following designations DNV +1A1, EO ICE-C Car Carrier (RoRo MCDK PET) DK (+) pwdk+MV.

Deck and Ramp System:
Heavy units are loaded on the strengthened decks 6, 9 and 7D, which can carry loads of 3 tons/m2. The other decks allow loads 1.5 tons/m2, 1 ton/m2, 0.4 ton/m2 and 0.2 ton/m2. For increased cargo flexibility deck 2, 5, 8 and 10 with capacity of 0.2tons/m2 and deck 4 and 7 with a capacity of 0.4tons/m2 are divided into hoistable sections.

The vessel is fitted with two loading and discharging ramps with entrance on deck 7. The stern ramp is arranged with a 36-degree angle of incident from the centre line with a ramp width of 10.5 m. Maximum capacity is 112 tons and 45 tons axle load. The midship ramp is arranged with a 90-degree angle and a ramp width of 7 m. The maximum capacity is 45 tons. This arrangement with one stern quarter ramp on the aft starboard side and one midship ramp provides good flexibility for cargo operations.

Anchoring/Winches:
The deck machinery consists of 6 mooring winches, three which are placed forward at the forecastle deck and three are placed on the aft mooring deck. All winches are of type Norwinch MV-16 delivered from Bergen Mekaniske Verksted.

There are 2 sets of anchor winches located forward, one at port side and one at starboard side, both Norwinch AMV 16 75/80-78K3. The vessel is equipped with 1 hydralift crane located by the accommodation with capacity 6 tons used for spare parts and provision handling

Cargo ventilation:
Fans evenly distributed throughout the vessel create good ventilation during loading, discharging and voyage. The cargo holds are ventilated with 20 air changes an hour during cargo operation and 10 times an hour during voyage.

Machinery:
The propulsion machinery is a B&W 6L80GB engine with an output of 14168 kW at 96.5 rpm. The main engine is attached to a fixed 5-blade propeller and fitted with remote control from the bridge, bridge wings and control room. For increased manuvering abilities there is one Liaaen TT-83/56-250 thruster installed with an output of 1130 kW. The vessel is equipped with a highly effective double plated spade rudder. For electrical power supply there is one shaft generator installed type DK 4640 – 6 AZ 08 delivered by Siemens that gives 800 kW. Further, there are two BMW generator type KRGB-9 and one BMW generator type KRG with an output of 1270 kW and 705 kW respectably. To ensure sufficient power in emergency situations one Detroit Diesel 6MC emergency
generator is installed.

Interior:
All cabins are located on upper deck and the vessel is equipped with gym, basket ball court, swimming pool and separate TV-room for officers and crew to provide for the possibility of relaxing activities. Pilot cabin is placed on bridge deck, canal transit cabin and spare cabin on the upper deck for easy access to the bridge. Bridge wings are fitted with 5 square
meters steel roof.

Security arrangements:
For fire fighting, the ship is fitted with a permanent installed 16.2 ton CO2 system for engine room and cargo holds. Also, there are a number of portables CO2 and water fire extinguishers installed though out the vessel. The vessel has 2 Harding enclosed life boats with capacity
44 persons each. In addition there are three life rafts with
carrying capacity of 20 persons each, one carrying 25 persons
and one carrying 6 persons. The vessel is equipped with 3
survival suits.
