Motor control centres are centrally located combinations of motor starters. Motor control centres are also known as group starter panels.
When it is time to select the motor starter for the control centre, Wilhelmsen Marine Engineering offers a choice between different types:
- DOL is a direct starter for applications where energy is not a scarce resource
- Y/D is used primarily when a start needs to be carried out at a low energy consumption
- Soft starter ramps up slowly to the full working speed of the motor
- Frequency converters are used to control the starting speed of the motor or equipment
Transformer starter is used primarily for larger motors, e.g. for thrusters.
