Included in the deal are HVAC engineering services and equipment such as air handling units, cooling machinery, control panels, fans, heaters and cabin units for the accommodation module. Delivery is scheduled for Q4 2010. The rig itself is to be delivered in Q1 2012.
The SeaDragon 1 is a deepwater semi-submersible drilling rig. The project started up at Vyborg Shipyard in Russia but was not completed due to financial difficulties. The rig was then transported to Holland and laid up for more than four years. The current owner is a consortium of three banks who awarded the contract to complete the rig to Jurong Shipyard in 2008. Jurong’s has mainly focused on installing equipment in machinery areas and producing the complete accommodation module.
The rig is based on the Moss Maritime design and is built for water depth ratings down to 8,000 feet and temperatures from -20 °C to +35 °C. This makes it suitable for operations in most of the world’s known challenging deepwater arenas.
This is the 13th HVAC contract for a semi sub drilling rig won by Wilhelmsen Marine Engineering at Jurong since 2002. WME has delivered HVAC solutions to more than 100 advanced offshore units, including drilling rigs and ships, FPSO’s, fixed and floating production platforms and LNG plants. The company has unique expertise and experience within both the marine and the oil & gas sectors.
