This boom benefits from the same technology as makes the Oily Water Pod so effective.  The extreme ability to capture oil and repel water have led to the unique overlapping - plate design. 

Unlike other booms this may be retrived after a bunkering or maintenance event and placed back in its storage drum.  This can be done repeatedly until the boom becomes fully saturated with oil.
