Wilhelmsen Ships Service office opens in Mongstad to service StatoilHydro terminal

05.06.2009 (Ships Service )
Wilhelmsen Ships Service has established a new office in Mongstad, Norway, to service all vessels calling at the StatoilHydro oil and gas terminal.

As a result of increased activity at the StatoilHydro terminal at Mongstad, Wilhelmsen Ships Service has opened a new office in the port. The company will have two employees working on call to provide 24 hour cover to all vessels calling at the terminal. They will handle all the port agency work, in addition to handling the delivery of marine products and technical services.

Initially, the main focus will be on the LPG carriers calling at Mongstad. StatoilHydro has more than 10% of the global waterborne LPG market, and Norway ranks as the world’s third largest exporter of this product after Saudi Arabia and Algeria.  Most of Statoil Hydro’s LPG is shipped in large carriers to terminals around the world, but a significant proportion travels by small ships to markets in north-western Europe.

“We are very pleased to be present in this port,” said Per Saltvedt, Business Director of Ships Agency in Wilhelmsen Ships Service. “Mongstad ranks as the most modern and efficient LPG terminal in Western Europe, and we expect to be working in a very busy environment. At present, most of our work at the port is with LPG carriers, but we also provide products and services to oil tanker business in Mongstad and Sture. We expect to deal with over 200 vessels per year, and this number will grow as we become more established in the port.”

Christer Bonde, the Area Director for Scandinavia, also commented on the opening of the new office. “We are now ideally placed to handle the growing amount of traffic on the west coast of Norway,” said Christer. “This new office adds to our network in Norway, where we presently provide Unitor marine products, agency services, technical services and maritime logistics through outlets in Oslo, Porsgrunn, Bergen, Aalesund and Glomfjord. This strengthens our ability to support shipping activities in our home region.”
