The Managing Director of Intership Navigation Co. Ltd., Captain Eugen Henning Adami had invited Mrs Shiakallis to act as Godmother to the vessel. Intership Navigation Co. Ltd is a member of the Alfred Hartmann Group that technically manages a fleet of more than 50 owned vessels. It is one of the leading shipping companies on Cyprus and has an extensive newbuilding programme stretching to 2012.
At the naming ceremony Mrs Shiakallis successfully cut the ribbon and smashed the champagne bottle against the bow of the new vessel. In her official naming speech, she wished the vessel and its crew good luck, always a foot of water under its keel, always full cargo holds and many happy returns.
At a separate ceremony Mrs Shiakallis presented an icon of St Nicholas to the ship's captain. The icon will accompany the vessel on all its journeys. St Nicholas is by Greek tradition the patron saint of seafarers, so it was considered a fitting gift to the vessel and its crew. It was indeed a grand occasion and a great honour to be part of this great celebration.
