Wilhelmsen Ships Service assists Sanko in making environmental conversion

22.04.2010 (Ships Service )
Wilhelmsen Ships Service office in Japan has just completed an R-22 retrofit project on a vessel owned by Sanko Line. The vessel “Sanko Spark” is changing from R-22 to the non ozone-depleting gas, R-417A.

Wilhelmsen Ships Service engineers have been converting R-22 refrigeration systems in many vessels around the world. Now they have performed this first refrigeration retrofit for a Japanese company. The conversion took place at Kimitsu on 16 March 2010.

“We are very pleased to have carried out this refrigerant changeover,” said Katsuyoshi Sasaki, Account Sales Manager in Yokohama. “This shows that it is not just European vessels that are changing over to environmentally friendly gases. Japanese companies are also showing a strong interest in reducing their use of ozone-depleting gases.”

The Sanko Steamship Co Ltd is a long-established and well-known shipping company in Japan. Sanko Line's operating fleet of 188 vessels consists of carriers for oil, raw materials, grain and other bulk cargoes, break bulk cargoes, forest products, liquefied gases and off-shore support vessels.
