Efficient cargo and ballast handling course

The STCW courses required for an officer joining a tanker, do not dwell on the practical aspects of tanker work. IMTC has recognized this and has designed a course in Efficient Cargo and Ballast Handling using Norcontrol's PC based Simulator.

This Simulator emulates all the operations of tanker work on a CBT type of VLCC. The thrust of the course is, understanding pumps and using safe and efficient pumping techniques so as to minimize turnaround time in port. Crude oil washing operation is also dealt with in detail. The computer calculates the amount of dollars spent in discharge operations due to pumping operations. During the course, a participant will load, discharge, tank clean, gas-free and inert the ship. Besides this, other topics relating to practical tanker operations are also dealt with. The course is also used as a platform for discussion and experience sharing. Participants are encouraged to share their experiences to enhance learning value.

Course Objective:

  • On completion of this course, a participant will be able to operate cargo and ballast systems of a tanker in a safe, efficient and cost-effective manner, while at all times complying with MARPOL rules.
