Wilhelmsen Maritime Services (WMS) represents the WW group’s ambition to be a substantial player in the maritime service sector. Focus on providing products and services to the merchant fleet
Wilhelmsen Ships Service has the world’s largest maritime network, with 352 offices in 71 countries, and handled 54 000 port calls in 2007. In addition, it made 195 000 product deliveries to some 20 000 vessels.
Wilhelmsen Ships Service has established a global organisation with eight regions and regional head offices: Northern Europe (Oslo, Norway), Central Europe (Rotterdam, Netherlands), Southern Europe and North Africa (Genoa, Italy), Eastern Mediterranean (Piraeus, Greece), Africa, Middle East and Black Sea (Dubai, UAE), South-East Asia and Oceania (Singapore), North-East Asia (Shanghai, China), and South and North America (Houston, USA).
Customer centres have been established in all these regions to boost the level of service and ensure a 24/7 customer follow-up.
Offering various bunkers services, Wilhelmsen Premier Marine Fuels is also part of this unit. It handles more than eight million tonnes of bunker oil per annum and ranks as one of the world’s largest companies of its kind.
Focus on safe and efficient vessel operation
With a portfolio of more than 320 vessels, Wilhelmsen Ship Management (WSM) provides solutions for the following segments; LNG/LPG carriers; Ro-ro and PCC/PCTC vessels; tankers and offshore units. It also offers an extensive programme for vessel manning and training of seagoing personnel. Other key areas include manning of offshore installations, project staffing, and technical and operational solutions for inspection and auditing. The company manages vessels from offices in 8 countries and has crewing agents in 15 nations.
The number of vessels with full technical management increased from 175 in 2007 to 194. Progress was made in all markets with the USA and Singapore experiencing the greatest growth.
This business area also embraces Wilhelmsen Insurance Services, which provides the WW group’s insurance expertise.
Focus on safety, environmental and cryogenic solutions
Wilhelmsen Ships Equipment offers complete systems for fire-fighting and nitrogen inert gas for newbuildings and vessel conversions. Its solutions and equipment are used by roughly a quarter of the world’s merchant fleet.
About 80% of new tonnage is built in Asia today. Wilhelmsen Ships Equipment delivered equipment to about 400 large projects, which represented 25% of the market in this segment.
TI Marine Contracting has specialised in low-temperature insulation of cargo tanks on gas carriers and terminal piping, as well as fire and comfort insulation of naval vessels.
Focus on electro, automation and HVAC solutions
Wilhelmsen Marine Engineering (WME) is a leading international supplier of customized electrical, automation and HVAC systems for the newbuild, retrofit and offshore markets. With an experienced service team of specialists, WME is able to provide customers with repairs, spare parts and after-sales support. This diverse portfolio has resulted in substantial growth within all WMEs business areas.
Wilhelmsen Marine Engineering has an extensive global network with offices located in Uddevalla and Gothenburg (Sweden), Odense (Denmark), Oslo (Norway), Miami (USA), Singapore and Shanghai.
Positioned for growth
The market for maritime services is characterised by solid growth resulting from the expansion of the world fleet. This favourable development has yielded positive results for all the WMS business units.
