MV Torrens to receive award

25.05.2005 (WW )
MV Torrens has been awarded "The ShipPax Award for Outstanding Ro-Ro cargodecks 2004". The new PCTC (Pure Car/Truck Carrier) is getting a lot of attention due to the outstanding employment of cargo space.

We are very proud to receive this honour. The award is a significant recognition of the competence provided by our project team and the yard's efforts in developing this new generation of PCTC’s. The innovative cargo space layout and superior propulsive performance is setting a new standard for this class of vessels, says General Manager Geir Fagerheim. He is responsible for design and newbuilding services in Barber Marine Consultants.

The award winning vessel is the first in a series of 6 PCTCs ordered by the WW-group from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries in Japan. The vessels will be deployed in the Wallenius Wilhelmsen Lines fleet.

Torrens will receive the ShipPax Award from shipping publisher ShipPax Information for "a highly optimised PCTC design combining a novel arrangement of the double bottom, fuel tanks and solid ballast with a cargo space which maximises the cargo capacity and flexibility to carry a wide variety of ro-ro cargo".
