BI Norwegian School of Management has entered into a co-operation agreement with Wilh. Wilhelmsen regarding the establishment of a professorship in research, development and competence communication regarding the maritime industry.
The co-operation agreement has been entered into through the Tom Wilhelmsen Foundation, which will contribute NOK 6 million to basic scientific research in relation to the maritime industry at the Centre for Maritime Research at BI Norwegian School of Management. The Chair will be financed for five years, from 1 August 2006 to 31 July 2011.
“The co-operation agreement with BI Norwegian School of Management will contribute to creating interest in the development of the maritime industry, as well as interest for its considerable added value in and for society”, says Wilhelm Wilhelmsen, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Wilh. Wilhelmsen ASA and Chairman of the Board of Directors in the Tom Wilhelmsen Foundation.
In the Autumn of 2006, BI Norwegian School of Management is to establish a separate research centre, the Centre for Maritime Research, in order to develop the professional environment connected to research and competence communication in relation to the maritime industry.
The Centre for Maritime Research at BI aims to carry out basic scientific research, educate doctoral programme candidates, and develop and implement a competence-development programme targeted at the maritime industry. The results of the research will provide the foundation for research-based teaching at BI Norwegian School of Management.
