The Wilh. Wilhelmsen story began on a Tuesday in 1861 when its founder, Morten Wilhelmsen, signed the papers establishing the company. The celebration at the Opera House in Oslo capped 150 years of development and leadership in the global maritime industry.
Magical evening at the opera
Customers, partners, dignitaries and friends of the Wilhelmsen family gathered to enjoy a dazzling panorama show of the group’s past, present and future. More than 1 000 guests were gathered and His Majesty King Harald V and Her Majesty Queen Sonja were two of the prominent guests.
Wilhelmsen family sat the tone
Wilhelm Wilhelmsen, fourth generation Wilhelmsen at the helm, together with his son Thomas, chief executive from October 2010 welcomed the guests and sat the tone for the evening.
Wilhelm shared his own six most memorable WW moments: the Partnair accident, the Tampa incident, the establishment of Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics, the acquisition of EUKOR Car Carriers, the purchase of Glovis and last but not least the creation of Wilhelmsen Maritime Services.
Thomas Wilhelmsen expressed confidence for the company’s future and gratitude to all employees, past and present, for their hard work and dedication. They have helped make the company what it is today, he added.
